When and where do you meet?

We meet on Thursday evenings at 6:00  pm at the  Unity Church of Wimberley,
455 White Wings Rd, Wimberley, TX 78676

A meditation period (50 minute) begins at 6:00PM followed by a Dharma talk led by Randy Gribbin or Anita Gribbin

What if I haven’t had any experience with Vipassana/Insight Meditation?

Please attend our basic instruction and orientation meeting which is offered  @ 5:30 PM each Thursday, prior to the regular group meeting. Contact Randy Gribbin at 830-964-3684 or rgribbin@gvtc.com to confirm you are planning to attend so we can make arrangements.

Is there any cost to attend the group?

No. Consistent with Insight Meditation tradition, the teachings are priceless and therefore offered without cost. We rely on the tradition of Dana or generosity from the group in the form of a monetary donation for the room rental and for the support and expenses of our Community Dharma Leader, Randy Gribbin.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable street clothes. Most of us take off our shoes outside the hall so you may prefer to wear socks.

Do I need to bring anything with me in order to meditate?

We provide chairs. Some people prefer cushions, Zafus/Zabutans, and choose to sit on the floor. If you are used to sitting on the floor you are welcome to bring your own cushions or blankets for that purpose. If you are not used to sitting on the floor a chair is fine. Some people like to bring blankets or cushions to be more comfortable in the chairs. A shawl is also recommended because of the central air conditioning.

What do words like Sangha, Metta and Dharma mean?

Part of the tradition of Insight Meditation is the adoption/translation of terms from both the Pali and Sanskrit languages. Both are ancient languages from India, used by Buddha and by other religious sages, with a useful vocabulary for meditation and spiritual inquiry. It is not necessary to learn these terms in order to practice. Most people pick up this vocabulary quickly but it is always appropriate to ask for clarification if you don’t understand one of these terms.
